Wound monitoring technology startup Tissue Analytics has established an eight person office in Kansas City, Kansas following its hire of former Cerner staffer there who set up the office as part of his new role as vice president of sales, according to a story by the Kansas City Business Journal.  It marks an expansion for the company which previously was based out of one office in Baltimore.

Earlier this year Tissue Analytics joined Cerner’s Open Development Experience, which gives third-party developers the ability to build applications that can interface with its electronic health record systems. Tissue Analytics CEO Kevin Keenahan told the business journal that the ability to integrate directly into Cerner’s EHR could help his business streamline installation in weeks.

In October, Tate Gilchrist, senior business developer of open platform services for Cerner, told the business journal that it had about 22 commercial app developers partnering with its systems.

Earlier this year Tissue Analytics inked a deal with Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City to integrate the startups’s wound monitoring technology, a move that followed a sixteen week pilot of Tissue Analytics technology last year.

Tissue Analytics has a smartphone app, which clinicians use to snap a photo of a wound, and then, through a set of algorithms, data about the wound’s shape and color are recorded, stored in the cloud, and available for nurses and doctors to access. Its approach is designed to make workflows simpler and more intuitive and is designed to rival medtech titans such as Philips.
